texas accessories

This Texas tourist accessorizes her bright floral palette with a mustard beret, Juicy Couture charm bracelet and a turquoise watch that looks as if she pulled it from a cereal box.
Even the beads holding her conference pass add to her outfit.
Oddly enough she says fellow Texans shoot weird glances at her because of the way she dresses, but in Halifax she feels accepted.

cover of the coast?

James and Kayan could easily have made the cover of The Coast last Thursday.
Though they aren’t wearing the same outfits, they epitomize the same laid-back vibe of the illustrated Haligonians pictured below.
James wears a leather necklace with a key pendant — one of the keys from his old apartment in Cape Town, South Africa. His former roommates also have necklaces like this one.
(Note the pink screen-printed key worn by one Coast cover model.)
Kayan’s fashion inspiration comes from The Sartorialist and fashion magazines such as Vogue.
She bought her lace shorts at American Apparel, but her favourite place to shop in Halifax is Elsie’s.
Get their look by pairing vintage or locally-made items with basics.

Natasha rocks the high-waisted look — preferred over the low-rise by Haligonians in the know — and accessorizes with a leather belt and boots.
“All natural materials and adornments have been totally popular this year,” she says.
“Take leathers and feathers for an example. I wonder how the cows and birds feel about this?”

vagabond vintage: broken earring on cunard

Mitchell, wearing an ’80s-print tee and red drawstring shorts, gets his inspiration from Brent Halverson.
If you spot him around town, he’ll most likely be wearing a silk neck scarf like this one.
Zsuzsa’s eclectic accessories are her secret weapon — olive belt with Navajo-style embroidery, fanny pack with a woven rainbow pocket, green and yellow bangles on one wrist and a beaded cuff on the other.
A broken earring adds to the Vagabond Vintage buyer’s charm.

David’s masculine outfit was inspired by punk style — functional red suspenders and skinny black jeans.
“It’s British punk style,” the Vagabond Vintage buyer explains, “I’m just not wearing the combat boots.”
He keeps his second button closed with a neon green paper clip, which matches a thread tied to his wrist.
This fall he’s looking forward to customizing cardigans with embroidery.
